IPCSA Detention Committee
Annual Plan for 2006

Committee Purpose:
To provide a forum for
detention practitioners to share information; to promote issues of mutual
concern with regard to facility operations; and to enhance services to juveniles
under the jurisdictions of the courts.
Review of 2005:
Detention practitioners have
come together several times during the year in an effort to improve detention
services in the state of Illinois. Many of the detention committee members are
also active participants in the Illinois Juvenile Detention Alternatives
Initiative. A partnering with JDAI has brought about forums for some meaningful
work toward detention reform efforts.
Objectives for 2006:
1. Recruit active committee membership from all
detention facilities in Illinois.
2.
Continue to structure and organize the
committee.
3.
Work with legislative committee to
inform detention committee members and detention community about legislation
that impacts juvenile justice.
4.
Work in collaboration with the
Administrative Office of Illinois Courts.
5.
Work in cooperative effort with
Illinois Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative.
6.
Continue to promote the Illinois
Detention Mission, Vision, and Core Values created January 2004, endorsed
unanimously by IPCSA CMO Committee at March 2004 spring conference.
7.
Promote initiatives that improve the
delivery of juvenile detention services.
8.
Contribute articles for Outlook and
IPCSA website.
9.
Develop and promote training track for
IPCSA conference, specific to detention practitioners. Continue a collaborative
working relationship with the University of Illinois Institute for Legal,
Administrative & Policy Studies
10.
Hold at least four detention committee
meetings during the year, one at each IPCSA conference and additional meetings
in June and December. June and December meetings will be held at two different
detention facilities to allow members to visit facilities.
11.
Establish purpose and focus that will
keep the detention committee active and meaningful to membership and IPSCA.
Projected Budget:
$200 for postage, mailings, copying, and meeting
incidentals
