IPCSA Detention/JDAI Committee
Annual Plan for 2007

Committee Purpose:
To provide a forum for juvenile
justice and detention practitioners to share information; to promote issues of
mutual concern with regard to juvenile justice system and detention facility
operations; and to enhance services to juveniles under the jurisdictions of the
courts.
Review of 2006:
The
Detention Committee was reconstituted as the Detention/IJDAI Committee, and Sue
Korpai assumed the role of Committee Co-Chair. Kim Becker of the Executive
Board assumed the role of liaison between the Executive Board, the IJDAI
Partner’s Group and the Detention/IJDAI Committee. Carmen Casas, the JDAI
Coordinator for Cook County has also partnered with the Detention/IJDAI
Committee to share her expertise and provide information and resources that a
partnership with the JDAI initiative can bring to IPCSA and the state of
Illinois Juvenile Justice Community. The committee membership has agreed to be
supportive of the JDAI core strategies.
Objectives for 2007:
1.
Recruit and sustain active committee
membership that is representative of all jurisdictions in the state in which a
juvenile detention facility is located.
2.
Recruit active membership that is
representative of juvenile probation.
- Continue to structure and
organize the committee; strengthen the relationship and enhance
communication between this committee and the Executive Board.
- Work with legislative
committee to inform committee members and juvenile justice community about
legislation that impacts juvenile justice system in Illinois.
- Provide forum for
discussion about issues that impact juvenile probation and detention systems
and formulate legislative statements that are then brought forward to impact
change and improvement in systems conditions.
- Work in collaboration with
the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts.
- Work in cooperative effort
with Illinois Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative, promoting the
initiative and embracing the IJDAI core strategies.
- Continue to promote the
Illinois Detention Mission, Vision, and Core Values created January 2004,
endorsed unanimously by IPCSA CMO Committee at March 2004 spring conference.
- Promote initiatives that
improve the delivery of juvenile detention, probation and court services.
Promote evidence-based principles and collaboration.
- Contribute articles for
Outlook and IPCSA website.
- Develop and promote
training track for IPCSA conference, specific to detention and juvenile
justice practitioners. Continue a collaborative working relationship with
the University of Illinois Institute for Legal, Administrative & Policy
Studies.
- Hold at least four
committee meetings during the year, one at each IPCSA conference and
additional meetings in June and December. June and December meetings will
be held at two different detention facilities to allow members to visit
facilities.
- Establish purpose and
focus that will keep the Detention/IJDAI committee active and meaningful to
membership and IPSCA.
Projected Budget: $200
for postage, mailings, copying, and meeting incidentals
