VI.            Purpose and future of the Gender Responsive Committee

Minutes:

- We had several new faces that joined our committee meeting this conference. We also had Pat Pope from the McLean County YWCA in attendance. The members who attended were:

Kristen Gentile (AOIC), Chere Kersmarki  (LaSalle), Nancy Hiney (LaSalle), Rodney Verdine (LaSalle), Rachel Cousert (Sangamon), Maya Hennessey, Billie Jo Henson (Livingston).

In addition the co-chairs Ava Carpenter ( Sangamon ), Tracy Phillabaum (DuPage) and Melissa Spooner (Cook) led the meeting.

- We discussed the committee chairs sitting at the table and asked if members could stop over and to give us breaks that would be appreciated.

- We listed the items to be sold to the group and asked if we should reach a certain amount before holding any money back for the committee.  We decided once $150 has been achieved, we will hold 10% of the remaining profit for the committee to support the craft fair.

-Pat Pope from the YWCA was introduced and she described her programs and suggested the program Stepping Stones would best utilize the money earned.  Stepping Stones provides 24 hour assistance for sexual assault victims in McLean County . It was decided she would come to the breakfast on Friday to receive the check in the amount of $166.50.

- Not everyone has heard back from their counties for the resources book. We will continue to update the information as we get it.

- The chairs explained what has been happening at the non conference meetings; i.e. average of 3 people all from the north end of the state. It was agreed to have communication through e-mail and if enough members were interested in meeting would look at the most logical part of the state to meet in.

- The lack of participation and membership in the past was discussed and there was lively conversation with those present in the committee meeting. A true commitment for gender responsive services throughout the state was verbalized and we agreed there was a strong purpose for the committee. The vision for the committee was discussed somewhat and it is something that needs to be developed and written out formally.
