Innovative Leadership Award

Presented annually to the Program in Probation or Detention that exemplifies innovation and leadership in offender program development with demonstrated evidence of effective outcomes

Nominations for the Leadership Award

·        Nominations will be submitted to and reviewed by the Nominating Committee who will then forward 4 programs to the Selection Committee. Nominations may be submitted from the probation and detention communities, local offices or detention centers.  There is no limit to the number of nominations that may be submitted by any one entity.  Programs nominated but not selected in the year they were nominated, may be nominated again in the following year. 

Selection Process

Award recipients will be selected in a two-stage review process.  All nominations will be submitted to the IPCSA Nominating Committee.  The Nominating Committee will review all nominations and select a group of 5 or 6 finalists to be presented to the Institute’s Selection Committee.  The Institute’s Selection Committee will review the nominees and make the final determination the year’s recipient.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee should be composed of members of IPCSA along with representatives from the Institute.

Selection Committee

Composition of the Institute Selection Committee has not been finalized.  At this point, likely members will include: 

 

·        Director of the Institute for Legal and Policy Studies

·        Senior Training Coordinator for the Probation and Detention Training Project

·        Member of the Research Staff from the Institute

·        Faculty members/affiliates from the Institute

·        AOIC Probation Division Director (Jim Grundel)

·        IPCSA President

 

Annual award given at the Fall IPCSA Conference

The annual award will be presented at the Fall IPCSA conference.  A program booklet will be created detailing all of the finalists for the year’s award.  In addition the recipient and finalists will be described on the Institute’s web site. The Award will consist of a wall plaque and certificates presented to the program manager, the agency’s administrator and program staff.  A press release packet will be developed for media in the program’s home area.

The selection criteria for the Innovative Leadership Award include:

·        The program must have been initiated at least one year prior and must have been operational for at least six months.

·        The program should have a clearly defined mission and goals

·        There should be documentation of effective outcomes with offenders

·        The program must provide evidence that it has created an innovative approach to dealing with a program issue or has developed an innovative strategy for improving program delivery or outcomes.

In addition to the criteria listed above, the program nomination will include the following:

·        Name of the program

·        Name of program coordinator and staff (if applicable)

·        Relevant contact information

·        Department

·        Type of program

·        Brief description of the program (approximately 100 - 150 words in length)

·        Funding source for the program (if applicable)
