Membership of this committee consists of Court Services managers, adult and
juvenile probation officers as well as representatives of TASC and treatment.
Review of 2005:
The committee sponsored a "Carnival" fund raiser at the
Spring Conference and a giant Silent Auction at the Fall Conference; the
latter fund raiser netted $714. One- half of this amount was donated to
sponsor attendance of youth from Macon Co. at the IDEA conference in
December.
Committee members arranged a conference workshop again this past year. This
Fall workshop was conducted by the State Police and focused on the Impaired
Driver utilizing the PRISM glasses to duplicate the effects of being
impaired.
At every conference the committee brings informational items such as
brochures, posters and publications for distribution to the local
departments. Table space is provided through the courtesy of the
Association.
As has been the tradition for many, many years now, the committee promoted
the participation of probation and court services departments in Drunk and
Drugged Driving Prevention Month. Entries depicting their activities will be
judged in the Spring of 2005 with the winner receiving a$100 donation for
their charity of choice.
The committee attempts to include information speakers on the agenda for the
conference committee meetings. For example, at the fall conference a
representative from TASC shared information on the Access to Recovery grants
that had been in operation for over a year.
Goals/Objectives for 2006
Membership: A chair person will attend each new member reception to promote
involvement with and membership in the Substance Abuse Committee. In
addition, each member is asked to bring a guest and potential member to a
meeting each year. All new members will be asked to commit to working on a
sub-committee.
Professional Education:
The Committee will sponsor a training workshop(s) again
this year. In addition, informational speakers for the conference committee
meetings will be sought.
Public Awareness: The Committee will again sponsor informational tables at
each conference. We will promote the involvement of local departments in
Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Activities and in Red Ribbon
celebrations. Money will be earned by the committee to award $100 for the
best submission of activities for 3 - D month. In addition, a cash donation
will be made from the monies earned from a silent auction held at the Fall
Conference. Money for the Association will also be raised from a "Carnival"
held at the Spring conference.
This year the Committee will work on a guide book for use by departments in
reviewing the services of local providers as it relates to substance
abusers. The document is intended to assist departments in familiarizing
themselves with the specifics of programs being offered as well as in
gathering information necessary to identify service gaps.
Projected Budget:
$100 for 3-D month contest winner
$60 for postage of 3-D month promotional packets
and for frames and certificates for all participants in the 3-D month
contest
(Note that all money requested will be less than that earned by the
Committee during the preceding year)
